Buriram Legal Guide

Consumer protection in Buriram

Buriram residents lose money to scams and unfair sellers just like everywhere else — the difference is knowing which of several free complaint routes actually moves fastest.

The law behind it

The Buriram angle

Buriram's rise as a sports destination (football and motorsport) has pulled in investment, tourism and foreign residents — and with them, more lease, house-build and business-setup work for local lawyers.

Online scams and the Computer Crime Act

Online fraud — fake shops, romance scams, investment schemes — is prosecuted under general fraud law alongside the Computer Crime Act. Thailand has also built mechanisms for freezing bank accounts that receive scam proceeds, so reporting quickly to your bank and to the police matters more than in an ordinary theft — money moved between Thai accounts can sometimes still be traced and frozen if you act fast. A criminal report also supports a related civil claim; see criminal matters.

Where to complain

  1. Go to the seller first, in writing, and keep the record — many disputes resolve here.
  2. The OCPB or its Buriram provincial counterpart for goods, services and advertising complaints.
  3. The Damrongdhama Centre at the provincial hall for general mediation — see government offices.
  4. The Consumer Case procedure in court, once other routes stall — see legal aid for free guidance before you file.
General information, not legal advice. Laws, fees and office procedures change. Confirm the current position with a licensed Thai lawyer or the official office before acting.
